Plant of the Month:Eucalyptus cinerea

Our Plant of the Month for July is the Eucalyptus cinerea which has the common name Argyle Apple or Silver Dollar. This medium sized spreading tree grows around 8 – 10 metres high and has attractive soft blue-green silvery foliage which will contrast well with other coloured shrubs in your garden. This tree has furrowed reddish brown bark and cream flowers in Spring. Eucalyptus cinerea prefers to grow in a  well drained soil but they will also tolerate wet as well as being fairly drought tolerant and frost hardy. These ornamental trees can be pruned as a hedge if trimmed regularly and the leaves are widely used in floristry and flower arrangements.
