Plant of the Month: Lavender

***Plant of the Month***

Our plant of the month for April is Lavender. Lavender is a tough woody perennial with silvery green foliage, upright flower spikes and grows into a compact shrub. Because of its Mediterranean origin it thrives in blazing hot sun and well drained dry soils. There are many different varieties and this beautiful aromatic plant comes in many colours from blue, purple, pink, white and green.
Lavender will make a stunning addition to your garden as a border, hedge or in a pot. It will suit a coastal or herb garden and because of the oil content in its leaves it has few insect pests and will attract bees and butterflies. Lavender is extremely low maintenance needing a prune only once a year.
A few varieties we have in stock are-
Lavender dentata or French Lavender has soft billowy grey green serrated leaves and flat furry spiked purple flowers.
Lavender Pink Frills is a compact shrub with pink coloured wings at the top of each flower.
Lavender Avonview has bright purple butterfly blooms above dark blue flowers.
Lavender Castillano White has white butterfly topped flowers with rich purple lower spikes and a strong scent.
