Julys Plant of the Month is Hymenosporum flavum (Australian Native Frangipani) It is a fast growing, evergreen tree with dark green glossy foliage. In spring it displays clusters of highly fragrant cream flowers that age to a golden yellow. Best grown in a full sun position but will tolerate part shade. 10m x 6m. Bird and butterfly attracting.
Tips: Protect young plants from frost. Prune after flowering to promote compact growth. Old plants can be rejuvenated by heavy pruning into old wood.
This Australian native tree is not related to the exotic frangipani (Plumeria).
