Our Plant of the Month for April is Grevillea ‘Boongala Spinebill’. This red flowering Grevillea is covered with showy 5-7cm toothbrush flowers from winter through to midsummer. With finely cut foliage and a mounded habit, this plant is an excellent massing shrub. A definite bird attracting plant for many months of the year due to long flowering period. 2m high x 2m wide. Full sun or partial shade.

Plant of the Month: Lomandra Verday

Lomandra Verday, an extra tough native grass that’s drought tolerate, frost tolerant and thrives where most plants struggle. Verday has the extra appeal of arching, semi-pendulous foliage that adds movement to the landscape. Suitable for pots, rockeries, gardens and planted in multiples to fill voids in difficult sites. 60cm high x 1m wide, full sun or part shade, sandy or clay soil.

Plant of the Month: Mandevilla Aloha Red

Bring a touch of the tropics to your garden this February with this tough performer that’s been bred in Australia. Mandevilla Aloha Red will climb onto frames, wire fencing and pergolas. Aloha Red produces bright red flowers with a glowing yellow throat from mid spring to late autumn which contrast beautifully against glossy green foliage. Suitable for in ground planting or pots. Full sun/part shade, heat tolerant, tolerates coastal conditions, protect from frost.

Tip: Aloha Red is not an overly aggressive climber and takes on a shrub like appearance if unable to climb onto surrounding supports.

 

Plant of the Month: Myoporum parvifolium Broad Leaf Form

An extremely versatile and attractive prostrate groundcover with semi-succulent leaves and masses of small star shaped flowers that appear from late spring through to early autumn. Makes an excellent weed suppressor due to tight ground hugging habit. Tolerates a wide range of conditions including coastal, clay, rockeries, drought, heat and frost. Full sun/part shade. 10cm high x 2-3m wide.

 

Plant of the Month: Grevillea Superb

Our plant of the month for December is Grevillea Superb. Superb is a gorgeous low spreading evergreen shrub with attractive, deeply divided foliage and bears large reddish-orange flowers all year round. It makes a colourful addition to any shrubbery. Ideal screening, hedging or specimen plant. Thrives in most soils and conditions but grows best in an open sunny position. Tolerates light to moderate frosts. Flowers attract nectar feeding birds. 2m x2m.
