Plant of the Month: Chamelaucium Petticoat Pink

Our plant of the month for July is Chamelaucium ‘Petticoat Pink’ (Geraldton Wax). Petticoat Pink is a medium sized shrub with large mid-pink flowers in profusion during spring. The flowers are offset by narrow, dark green leaves. Geraldton Wax is grown commercially for the cut flower trade. Grown in gardens as a decorative shrub or informal hedge and is also useful for erosion control. Requires well drained soil and a sunny position but withstands part shade. Tolerates extended periods of dryness and most frosts. Prune lightly after flowering. 2-3m high x 2-3m wide.

Plant of the Month: Hakea laurina

Our plant of the month for June is Hakea laurina (Pin Cushion Hakea). A tall shrub or small tree with leathery, green-bluish green leaves. Ball-like red/pink flowers are strikingly contrasted with creamy white styles and are produced from autumn to winter. Useful for screening, windbreaks and as a small native feature tree. The flowers attract nectar feeding birds. Tolerates moderate coastal exposure. 3-5 metres high x 2-4 metres wide. Full sun or part shade. Prune well after flowering to maintain compact growth.

 

Plant of the Month: Correa ‘Pink Mist’

Our plant of the month for May is the gorgeous Correa ‘Pink Mist’. This Correa is a compact bushy shrub with thick small dark green leaves. Beautiful shell pink, tubular blooms appear during Autumn and Winter attracting nectar feeding birds. It does equally well in sandy or clay soils, coastal or inland positions, sun or part shade positions making it extremely useful as an informal hedge or low screen, in pots or containers and in mixed plantings. 1m high x 1.5m wide.

Our Plant of the Month for April is Grevillea ‘Boongala Spinebill’. This red flowering Grevillea is covered with showy 5-7cm toothbrush flowers from winter through to midsummer. With finely cut foliage and a mounded habit, this plant is an excellent massing shrub. A definite bird attracting plant for many months of the year due to long flowering period. 2m high x 2m wide. Full sun or partial shade.

Plant of the Month: Lomandra Verday

Lomandra Verday, an extra tough native grass that’s drought tolerate, frost tolerant and thrives where most plants struggle. Verday has the extra appeal of arching, semi-pendulous foliage that adds movement to the landscape. Suitable for pots, rockeries, gardens and planted in multiples to fill voids in difficult sites. 60cm high x 1m wide, full sun or part shade, sandy or clay soil.
